Our goal at Kid Street Learning Center Charter School is to provide a consistent, supportive academic and behavioral model that builds on the children's talents rather than focusing on their challenges.
The Mission of Kid Street Learning Centeris to provide children and families living in extreme crisis, a caring, supportive educational community to call home. With this community the children’s emotional, social, psychological and educational needs are met. The parents and/or guardians have many of the same needs which also require facilitation. We do this in order to establish a healthy, functioning family structure where children feel safe, secure and loved and are now ready to take on the challenge of education.
The majority of the children have experienced innumerable negative experiences by the time they enroll at Kid Street. That being said, Kid Street has developed a holistic educational model that supports positive behaviour, the love of learning and positive emotional devolopment. Kid Street exceeds all of the State Standards, however the delivery system is based on hands-on, real world self initiated education.
The California Department of Education has congratulated Kid Street Learning Center Charter School for meeting and exceeding the State of California Star Test scores for nine years in a row. Each of our students receive an individual academic program as well a behavior management program designed by and with their teachers, counselors, Child Protective Services, social workers parents/guardians and/or foster parents.
We also provide an After-School Program that encourages positive socialization, real world/life activities as well as sports, arts and crafts, homework club, cheerleading, fashion design, woodworking, gardening, science club and many other creative, engaging opportunities. Our after-school program includes volunteers from Sonoma State University, Santa Rosa Junior College, students from our local High Schools, members of various Organizations and employees from local Businesses. The children feel loved and cared for by many community members and learn how to socialize appropriately in different settings.
This extended family, the many volunteers who are involved with the children of Kid Street, set the model for what is possible in life, how a happy healthy community works together for the benefit of all and each child learns their intrinsic importance in our family, their family and in the community as a whole.
